Mission Yarn: Where Knitting Lives and Love Unfolds

On Saturday, March 1st, we celebrated the grand opening of Mission Yarn, a place where creativity, community, and the pure joy of knitting come together. Every skein, stitch, and story in this shop is deeply woven with the threads of personal history and passion for the craft. Mission Yarn is not just a store; it's a reflection of a lifelong journey filled with warmth, discovery, and connection.

Knitting has been a cornerstone in my life. It all began when my grandmother taught me to knit as a child. I wasn’t bothered by techniques like casting on or binding off; I simply relished knitting rectangular scarves, tearing them apart, and starting all over again. Through our family tradition of skipping generations, my grandmother was a knitter, my mom a seamstress—but sewing never clicked for me. Cross-stitch caught my interest, though, and eventually, my love for knitting was sparked by a felted bag I spotted in my local yarn shop (LYS). That bag opened the doors to an addiction that forever changed me.

Over time, I grew from knitting felted bags and slippers to tackling hats, scarves, and wraps during the lockdown, and now creating sweaters almost exclusively. Each project tells its own story, but the craft itself has transformed my life in countless ways. From finding deep friendships through knitting to meeting the people who guided me to motherhood and my career as a provider recruiter, this magical art has shaped every aspect of my journey.

Mission Yarn is more than a place to buy yarn; it’s a sanctuary for fiber enthusiasts. I bring my unquenchable love for yarn, patterns, and stash building to serve our vibrant knitting community. I draw inspiration from knitting guilds, celebrate the brilliance of designers, and never hesitate to share my excitement for the latest trends. Teaching and helping others discover their own joy in knitting has been part of my identity for years, and classes will play a central role in the life of the shop.
